A/Prof William Chik is an Interventional Cardiac Electrophysiologist, Cardiac Device Implantation Specialist, and adult General Cardiologist at the Westmead Public Hospital and the Auburn Public Hospital since 2015. He is currently an accredited Consultant Cardiologist at the Westmead Private Hospital, Macquarie University Hospital, Mater Private Hospital and Norwest Private Hospital.

A/Prof Chik was awarded his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degrees from the University of Adelaide in 2002. He completed advanced cardiology training in South Australia and Westmead Hospital in New South Wales. He was admitted as a Fellow to the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2009.

Research and Studies

A/Prof Chik was awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) by the Faculty of Medicine at The University of Sydney. He undertook his PhD studies in the sub-specialty field of Cardiac Electrophysiology from 2009-2014. Outstanding cardiac research output has been highlighted by over 100 national and international peer-reviewed publications and abstract presentations, culminating in international recognition and awards from the cardiac electrophysiology and pacing community.

He returned to Australia following the completion of his Clinical Interventional Fellowship specialising in Cardiac Arrhythmias and Cardiac Device Management at the prestigious Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, USA (2013-2015) where he worked and published clinical research with the renowned world-leading experts in this field.

Experience

A/Prof Chik has extensive experience and specialises in the diagnosis and management of heart rhythm disorders. He is an expert in performing electrophysiology studies and radiofrequency ablation therapies for arrhythmias including supraventricular tachycardias (SVT), atrial flutter, atrial fibrillation, and ventricular arrhythmias. He has special interests in cardiac device implantation including pacemakers (PPM), implantable cardioverter defibrillators (AICD), cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT), and conduction system pacing (CSP) devices.

He is a current Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP), Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand (FCSANZ), American College of Cardiology (FACC), and European Society of Cardiology (FESC). A/Prof Chik is a passionate teacher and is a Clinical A/Professor at the University of Notre Dame. His enthusiasm and ongoing commitment to active clinical teaching led to his position as the Clinical Lead for Post-Graduate Cardiology Training at the Westmead Hospital. He speaks fluent Cantonese and is conversant in Mandarin.
